Welcome to the world of Persinette <3 This space was started out of a love/obsession with anonymous internet art, intimate-feeling online spaces, and the literary genre some people call “autotheory.” The result is writing that is sometimes diaristic, sometimes culturally-critical, always grounded in the goal of deconstructing art and experience in order to better understand what it means to be a person.

A note on the name: Persinette is the French version of Rapunzel, a fairy tale character encompassing many archetypes: the outsider, the idealist, and Jung’s puella—a sort of female Peter Pan. Some historians believe Rapunzel was based on the real-life Saint Barbara, whose captor was killed when her tower was struck by lighting, bringing to mind the symbology of the Tower tarot card, which represents destructive, necessary change.

Persinette is an attempt at breaking out of the tower, deconstructing feelings of alienation and confinement and the structures that keep us stuck there, among other things. Usually this takes shape as an essay, other times you will find short fiction, reading recommendations, and audio recordings.
